Interesting Article from Pat Noble
“I stumbled upon an article in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle from 1926 discussing a local man who joined the Marines and reduced the weight of a military plane radio from about 6 lbs to 5 lbs. His work is detailed in the piece, including the broadcast/reception quality, distances involved, etc. The article went on about Capt Francis E Pierce’s boyhood interest in electronics and his subsequent work with the telephone company before joining the US Navy, then the Marines.
I mentioned the article to Diana, who quickly found an additional article at Military Times showing how Pierce received an award for heroism in battle a couple of years later. She also found a photo. I’ve attached the photo and the Rochester article (parts 1 and 2), and included a link to the Military Times article.”
